Prohibitory Orders Imposed In Cachar Ahead Of LS Elections

 

GUWAHATI: The district magistrate of Cachar, Rohan Kumar Jha, has issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code to maintain peace and public safety during the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for April 26. The orders, announced on Tuesday, are in line with the Election Commission of India's standard operating procedure for the last 48 hours of the polling day.

The prohibitory orders are aimed at preventing any disturbance of peace and disruption in the electoral process, or potential violence and clashes between groups affiliated with different political parties. They also seek to ensure a smooth and secure environment for the parliamentary elections in Silchar's 8-HP constituency.

The order prohibits the unlawful assembly of more than five persons and the holding of public meetings during the 48-hour period leading up to the close of polls. The restrictions are effective from 5 pm on April 24 until April 27.

This measure is intended to safeguard public tranquility and prevent any incidents that might threaten the election process. The regional office of information and public relations for the Barak Valley Zone in Silchar, Assam, released the information in a press statement.
