GUWAHATI: Taking steps to regulate the fee structure in private schools of the state, the education department has formed a regulatory board for the same.
“One regulatory board has already been formed under the leadership of SEBA (Board of Secondary Education Assam) chairman and six other members,” Bulli Gogoi Bhuyan, district elementary education officer of Kamrup (Metro) told G Plus.
Officials added that this committee will come into force from January 1, 2020 and will formulate the fee structure of all private schools in a uniform manner.
“Members of the board have been finalised but we are yet to formulate the rules for setting the fee structure of private schools,” informed SEBA chairman, R C Jain.
He added that other members include director of secondary education, one chartered accountant, principal of B Borooah College SN Barman, president of private schools’ association Pankaj Das as well as secretary SEBA.
The Assam Non-Government Educational Institutions (Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2018 was introduced in the state assembly on April 2 after the government had decided to keep a check on the fees charged by private schools of the state. The bill seeks to make provisions for fixation of fees in all non-government educational institutes of the state.
