Preparations In Full Swing For Ambubachi Mela In Guwahati

 

GUWAHATI: Amid heavy rainfall followed by water logging and artificial floods across Guwahati, the city continues with its preparedness for the much-awaited Ambubachi Mela in Kamakhya Devalaya in full swing. 

This year, the Ambubachi Mela will be held from June 22 to June 26. 

 

Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Thursday, June 16, had a discussion with officials from the Railways, Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, and other departments. 

The Minister visited locations where temporary camps are being set up for the pilgrims. Temporary camps are being set up at many places in the city, including the Rang Bhawan in Maligaon. Officials from the health department will be appointed in all the camps. 

On the other hand, the Sonaram field has been divided into two parts. One part is set for the temporary camp and the other is set for car parking. Most importantly, this time no passes will be made available for the VIP and VVIP, said the Minister.

Another camp that can accommodate 7,000 people is being readied at Fancy Bazar, Guwahati. A total of 200 toilets have been erected. This time, the Government has given more importance to cleanliness, said Jayanta Mallabaruah.

The Assam Tourism Minister said that for transportation of pilgrims and visitors, 40 ASTC buses are being arranged at different places like the Kamakhya station, Guwahati Railway station, ISBT. 

Lights will be installed everywhere to ensure that people do not have difficulty while climbing the staircases of the Kamakhya Temple. 

The minister also advised the officials to set up yoga camps in all the temporary camps.
