GUWAHATI: Guwahati Municipal Corporation in its endeavor to create awareness on the importance of Waste Segregation and Management is organizing orientation programmes in various school and colleges of Guwahati. This time, however it went a step ahead in taking this initiative forward by organizing the orientation in St Thomas Pre School, Guwahati on 13th December. The orientation program was addressed by Smt. Monalisa Goswami, Shri Manojit Bujorbaruah (Executive Engineer,GMC)and Utpal Sarmah Boruah (GI Specialist, GMC).
Around 72 students aged between 2-5 years participated in various activities that were planned by GMC to instill the idea of cleanliness and hygiene in young minds. The teachers of the school equally participated in the activities to encourage the children. Activities included the differentiation between dry waste (like chocolate wrappers, chips packets) and wet waste (banana and orange peel) in blue and green dustbin respectively. The activities were done in a playful manner so that the children learnt the art of waste segregation from this stage itself. Later food items were distributed amongst the children.

“We are really thankful to GMC for choosing our school and educating our students on waste segregation. The child has tender mind and now is the time to mould them and shape it for future. If the lessons of cleanliness and hygiene are taught from now on, then it will make a good habit for them that will last in the later stage of life”, said one of the teachers of the school.
Guwahati Municipal Corporation had launched the ‘I Love Guwahati’ campaign in the city which intended to create awareness on the importance of Waste Segregation and Management .These orientation programmes are one of the steps that GMC has taken to promote and propagate Swachh Survekshan 2019 in the city. This has also been organized in Cotton Collegiate, Happy Child High School and Sanskriti-The Gurukul , Don Bosco High School, Guru Nanak High School earlier.
“We aim to work with the young minds of the city so that tomorrow they take this mission forward and make Guwahati the cleanest city and Assam the cleanest state in the world” said, GMC officials.
