GUWAHATI: Police authorities have arrested 27 people, 19 from Golaghat and eight from Jorhat for involvement in the illegal liquor trade.
The police and excise department officials have been on a quest to destroy large amounts of illegal liquor that is being seized across the state.
A forensic team came to Borholla district in Jorhat on February 24 and collected samples of alcohol for further examination.
It should be noted that more than 162 people have died so far in the hooch tragedy in Golaghat and neighbouring areas, and the numbers are continually rising and might increase to 200.
The incident occurred on February 22 where numerous people died after consuming spurious liquor. Currently, more than 200 people are also undergoing treatment in hospitals across these districts.
