GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police on Thursday, April 3 arrested two receivers of stolen gold and silver who are owners of jewellery shops in the city. The arrests were effected following interrogation of three snatchers.

A police team from Basistha Police Station under Officer-in-Charge Kapil Pathak interrogated known snatchers Kishor Medhi, also known as Sintu, Dipankar Karmakar, also known as Babu, and Amir Ali, leading to the identification of two jewellery shops in Lakhtokia and Panbazar as regular receivers of stolen gold and silver.
Subsequently, police conducted a raid at the identified locations and apprehended the two shop owners. Hemant Anand Rao Jadav, also known as Raju, of Jaishankar Refinery Jewellery Shop and Anish Chettry of Aparna Jewellery Shop were taken into custody.
During the raid, authorities recovered a significant quantity of stolen valuables, including more than three kilograms of gold and silver in the form of ornaments and bars. Additionally, cash amounting to ₹73,710 was seized, along with gold-melting tools used for refining and processing stolen jewellery and digital weighing machines
The police are continuing their investigation to trace the source of stolen jewellery and identify any further links in the network.
