GUWAHATI: An individual was apprehended by the Directorate Of Vigilance And Anti-Terrorism, Assam (DVAC) on the alleged charges of bribery in Rangia on January 3.
The individual has been identified to be Sub Inspector (UB) Ibotombi Singh of Rangia PS, Kamrup who was caught after he allegedly accepted a bribe in the premise of the police station from the complainant for deposing as a witness in the departmental proceeding initiated against the complainant.
A complaint was received at this Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption alleging that Sub Inspector (UB) Ibotombi Singh, of Rangia Police Station, had demanded ₹10,000 as a bribe from the complainant to meet travelling and other expenses that would be incurred for deposing as a witness in the departmental proceedings initiated against the complainant. Later the Sub Inspector reduced the amount of bribe to ₹5500.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached this Directorate to take necessary legal action against the above-mentioned public servant.
Accordingly, a trap was laid yesterday by a team from the DVAC, Assam caught red-handed the alleged, in the presence of independent witnesses, immediately after he accepted ₹5,000 as part of the demanded bribe from the complainant in the police station. The tainted bribe money has been recovered from his possession and has been seized accordingly in the presence of independent witnesses.
The individual has been apprehended and legal proceedings have been initiated.
DVAC took to X to put out, “Today @DIR_VAC_ASSAM trapped red handed SI(UB)Ibotombi Singh of Rangia PS, Kamrup after he accepted demanded bribe in the PS campus from the complainant for deposing as witness in Departmental Proceeding initiated against the complainant.”
