Podum Pukhuri To Be Centrepiece Of ₹68 Crore Brahmaputra Riverfront Project

GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is poised to visit Assam on January 20 to inaugurate the Brahmaputra Riverfront beautification project in Panbazar, Guwahati and the Podum Pukhuri (Lotus Lake) will be the centrepiece of the ₹68 crore Brahmaputra Riverfront project which will be inaugurated.

Talking to GPlus, a senior official from Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) shared insights highlighting key features of the project. 

"The newly renovated Podum Pukhuri, adorned with steps beside the lake, will be a centrepiece of the revitalized area,” the GMDA official informed GPlus. 

"The Riverfront view is designed with spaces for jogging, walking, and benches under the trees, providing a serene atmosphere for visitors. Additionally, the view promises to be a perfect spot to witness the mesmerising sunset over the Brahmaputra," the GMDA official further added. 

"The area covering this project is 30 bighas and the budget allocated for this project is Rs 68 crores approximately," the source in GMDA informed GPlus.

The project aims to breathe new life into the riverfront, offering a vibrant space that fosters tourism, economic activities, and provide recreational spots for locals.
