GUWAHATI: As Assam burns with the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted that they have nothing to worry about after the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019. The PM Tweeted,” I want to assure my brothers and sisters of Assam that they have nothing to worry after the passing of #CAB. I want to assure them- no one can take away your rights.”

This comes after the massive protests that took over the city on 11 December against passing of the bill.  Guwahati has quickly emerged as the epicentre of the protests with a large number people taking to the streets, despite the curfew.

In a notification issued by the Political (A) Department, Govt Of Assam, in lieu of the protests against Citizenship Amendment Bill in different parts of the state, telecom operators were directed to suspend Internet services from 7 PM starting 11th of December. The shutdown would be for 24 hours and will be lifted at 7 PM on the 12th of December.
