PM Modi Launches ‘Fit India Movement’ On National Sports Day

GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Fit India Movement’ today, August 29 on the occasion of National Sports Day at Indira Gandhi Stadium, New Delhi. 

He addressed the citizens there and first congratulated all the sports persons who have made India proud by winning numerous medals at international events around the globe. 

“Fitness is not just a word, but it is a necessity for a healthy and prosperous life,” said PM Modi.

He further added that Indian citizens have now become synonymous to various lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, early onset of heart diseases etc. Thus, it is important for people to focus on their health as it leads to the overall well-being of an individual. 

“Even though #FitIndiaMovement has been started by the government, the citizens have to spearhead the campaign. They are the ones who will ensure its success. I can say this from my personal experience, the investment is zero but returns are unlimited,” said the prime minister in closing.
