PM Modi Invited To Inaugurate Lachit Borphukon Statue At Jorhat

 

GUWAHATI: The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma announced today that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been invited to Jorhat to inaugurate the 125 ft statue of Lachit Borphukon at Lahdoigarh, Holongapar in Jorhat in the first week of March this year.  

The Assam Chief Minister announced the same on his official X handle today, where he said, “We are honored to extend an invitation to the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri @narendramodiji, to unveil a magnificent statue paying tribute to Bir Lachit Barphukan. Additionally, we have requested him to lay the foundation stone of Sivasagar Medical College and participate in the Griha Pravesh ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes constructed under the PMAY.”  

The Chief Minister further said that he had personally visited Jorhat today to oversee the preparations for the event.   

During his visit, PM Modi is also expected to lay the foundation stone of a new Medical College at Sivasagar and participate in a Griha Pravesh (housewarming) ceremony for 5.5 lakh homes which have been reportedly constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). 

Former President of India Ram Nath Kovind had earlier on February 25, 2022, laid the foundation of a bronze statue of Lachit Barphukan, along with a war museum and other facilities to be built at his memorial in an area of over 16.5 acres at Hollongapar in Jorhat.
