Rongali Bihu 2025 Celebrated By Assam Association Chennai

 

GUWAHATI: The Assam Association Chennai recently organised the Rongali Bihu 2025 celebrations in Chennai, marking the Assamese New Year with a cultural gathering that highlighted traditional performances, community participation, and regional cuisine.

The evening began with a performance reflecting on efforts to engage the younger generation with Assamese cultural traditions. Following the performance, a traditional attire ramp walk featured participants dressed in mekhela chadors, gamusas, and regional jewellery, showcasing elements of Assamese textile heritage.

The Husori performance, a customary aspect of Rongali Bihu, was also presented with traditional music and coordinated dance, adding a familiar festive element to the evening’s programme.

The evening also included group and solo songs and dances by members of the Assam Association Chennai. Following the performances, a traditional Assamese dinner was served, as the menu included a selection of regional dishes prepared by community members.
