The incident occurred around 5:50 PM, leading to the flooding of the area and drenching several commuters. The leakage was reported after a valve fitting procedure, intended to be completed before flushing, was left unfinished by the GJB.

An official from the Guwahati Jal Board, speaking to GPlus, explained the cause of the leakage, “The work was done yesterday. After the pit was dug, a wall was supposed to surround it. But that didn’t follow. Due to the absence of support on both sides of the valve, water spilled out. However, we have rectified the issue.”

Efforts to contain the water were swiftly undertaken by GJB workers, and the situation was brought under control shortly after the incident. No injuries or significant property damage have been reported, but the disruption caused inconvenience to many commuters in the area.
