GUWAHATI: A physical standard eligibility criteria has raised objections from candidates hoping to appear in an Assam Police recruitment process. Some of the aspirants have opposed the height and chest requirements made in the recruitment notice for the newly created Assam Commando Battalion. A few aspirants have called the criteria unrealistic for general category youths.
The recruitment process in question relates to 2,450 vacancies for the post of constables in the Assam Commando Battalion. The physical standards in the height and weight sections require a minimum of 167 cm for males and transgenders, and 162 cm for females in the general category. The chest requirement (for only males and transgenders) is 85 cm in normal form and 90 cm in expanded form.
Assam Police have responded to the objections by saying they seek to create a high-standard command force. In an official statement, the Assam Police stated, "In connection with the recently released recruitment notice for the newly created Assam Command Battalion, we have been receiving some complaints about the Physical Standards (Height & Chest Size) being unrealistic for the General Category youth. We want to reiterate that these Physical Standards are kept in line with the aim of creating a very high standard command force and we can not compromise on it".
The Assam Police have also informed that candidates for the post of constable in the last recruitment drive had many general candidates that passed the requirement.
"For those who think that these Standards are unrealistic, We'd like to inform the candidates that in our last recruitment drive for 6000+ for AB/UB Constables, we had thousands of general candidates who fulfilled these conditions," the statement further read.
