Two pedestrians while walking on the footpaths of GS Road, Guwahati, on Wednesday, fell inside the drain.

The incident which took place at 5:55 PM was recorded on CCTV, and soon became viral on social media.

The video footage clearly shows two pedestrians, falling into the drain while stepping on a wooden plank which was used to cover the drains.

It is to be noted that several parts of the city footpaths above the drains are covered with wooden planks without any warning or precautionary signage, which makes it very vulnerable for the citizens to meet with such incidents.

Talking to G Plus, Bhupen Sharma, an engineer in the city division of PWD said, “We are currently working on covering all the manholes and open outlets on the footpaths. We have to bring the slabs from out of station, which takes time. Our work is currently under progress, so the workers often cover the open slabs properly with wooden or plies boards. In this case, it appears either the worker made a mistake or some citizen might have pushed the plank to the edge."
