Parts Of Guwahati Declared As ‘Protected Area’

GUWAHATI: The District Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan area has issued an order declaring a specific area as a "Protected Area".

The order issued by Sumit Sattawan, IAS, District Magistrate of Kamrup Metropolitan District, enforced under Section 8E read with Section 2 of the Assam Maintenance of Public Order Act, 1947, came into effect from February 1, 2024, until further notice.

The designated "Protected Area" encompasses 
-    The southern side of the GS Road, starting from Ganeshguri Flyover up to Super Market Police Point, extending to the 60 ft road from Super Market Police Point to the Last Gate. 
-    The western boundary follows the RP Road from Last Gate to the entry point of the Assam Legislative Assembly.
-    The northern limit extends from Ganesh Mandir up to Ganeshguri Chariali.

Only bonafide residents and public servants of the Assam Civil Secretariat, along with other attached offices, are permitted entry into this designated area. Entry or presence without prior permission from the District Magistrate, an authorized officer on his behalf, the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Assam, or the Secretary, Assam Legislative Assembly, is strictly prohibited.

Violators of this order will face consequences under Sub-Section 5 of Section 8 F of the Act.
