GUWAHATI: The District Magistrate of the Kamrup (Metropolitan) Biswajit Pegu via an order dated 21st December, 2020 declared parts of GS Road in Guwahati as protected area.
"It has been made to appear to me that in the greater public interest and in the interest of safety and security, it is considered extremely expedient to take and ensure special precautions in order to regulate the entry of unauthorized persons into the areas specified in this schedule. I, Biswajit Pegu, IAS, District Magistrate, Kamrup Metropolitan District, Guwahati, in exercise of powers costarred upon me U/S 8E read with Section 2 of the Assam Maintenance of Public Order Act, 1947 do hereby order and declared scheduled area as ‘PROTECTED AREA' under Section 8 of the aforesaid Act with effect from 21st December /2020 until further orders of modification/revocation/cancellation or withdrawal," he stated in the order.
The following scheduled area is covered under the act:
East: Southern side of the G.S. Road starting from Ganeshguri Flyover up to Super Market Police Point
South: 60 ft. road starting from Super Market Police Point to Last Gate
West: From Last Gate along the R.P. Road up to the entry point A.L.A
North: From Ganesh Mandir up to Ganeshguri Chariali.
"Violation of this order by any person shall be liable to be punished under Sub-Section (5) of Section 8 F of the Act," the order further stated.
