Paris Olympics 2024: Indian Men’s Archery Team Reach Quarter-Finals

 

GUWAHATI: India's archery team of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Pravin Jadhav, secured a direct spot in the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics 2024. The team achieved a third-place finish in the Men's Archery Ranking Round on July 25 with a score of 2013 points. South Korea topped the rankings with 2049 points, followed by France with 2025 points. China finished fourth with 1998 points. All four teams, including India, qualified directly for the quarter-finals.

Dhiraj Bommadevara started in 11th place and made an impressive comeback to finish 5th. Tarundeep Rai performed consistently and finished 14th, while Pravin Jadhav struggled, finishing in 39th place. Despite Jadhav's difficulties, the combined efforts of the team earned India a third-place finish.

Tarundeep Rai began his first round subtly, scoring 55 points from his first six shots, including two ten-pointers, three nine-pointers, and an eight. He improved significantly in the second round, bringing his total to 113 points with a bullseye, three consecutive 10s, and two nine-pointers. Rai ended 14th overall with 337 points.

Dhiraj Bommadevara had a rough start, scoring 57 points on his first six shots. He scored 53 points in the second round and 56 in the third, dropping him to 36th place. However, he made a strong comeback in the fourth round with 56 points, including three 10-pointers, moving him to 27th place. Dhiraj continued his strong performance, finishing with 335 points after six rounds.

Pravin Jadhav impressed early on with two bullseyes in four rounds and a total score of 217. However, he couldn't maintain his performance and finished his first half with 328 points, ranking 37th.

The second half was marked by Dhiraj's exceptional comeback. Starting the second half with 335 points, he quickly accumulated 173 points in the first three rounds, including four bullseyes. Dhiraj finished with five more bullseyes in the remaining rounds, ending fourth with 346 points. Tarundeep Rai lost some momentum in the second half, scoring two bullseyes and finishing with 337 points, the same as his first half.
