Harvinder Singh Wins First Ever Paralympics Gold In Archery

 

Harvinder Singh won India’s first Paralympic gold in archery at Paris 2024, dominating Poland's Ciszek 6-0 in the final

GUWAHATI: India’s para-archer Harvinder Singh secured the country’s first-ever Paralympic gold medal in archery at the Paris Paralympics 2024, on Wednesday, September 4.

Harvinder dominated Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek with a 6-0 victory in the final of the Men’s Individual Recurve Open, earning India its fourth gold medal at the games.

Harvinder got off to a strong start in the final, scoring 9, 10, and 9 in the first set, while Ciszek managed only 9, 7, and 8. The second set was a closer contest, with both archers starting with two 9s, but Harvinder sealed the set with a 10, giving him a commanding 4-0 lead. 

In the third and final set, Harvinder delivered two 10s and a 9, securing the gold as Ciszek could only respond with two 9s and a 7. This victory adds to Harvinder's Paralympic legacy, following his bronze medal at the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics. 

This is India’s third archery medal at the Paris Paralympics, following Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi’s bronze in the Mixed Team Compound Open event.
