Owner Of Stolen Two-Wheeler Gets Challan As Thief Violates Traffic Norms In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The owner of a stolen scooter was required to pay a challan after a  thief stole the scooter and fled the scene without wearing a helmet in Guwahati.

Four days ago, the scooter was stolen from a residence in the Fancy Bazar area in Guwahati. Two days later the Guwahati Police sent a challan to the scooter's owner as it was found at the checking point, being ridden without a helmet. However, the police were unable to apprehend the driver.

Speaking to G Plus, the Officer-In-Charge (OC) of the Bharalumukh Police Station said, "After two to three days of the missing report of the scooter, it was spotted at the checking point in the Panbazar area. An elderly man was riding the scooter, and a woman was sitting behind. The Traffic Police tried to stop them as they travelled without wearing helmets. Out of fear, they fled, and the Police clicked a picture of the number plate and sent the challan to the owner. We think the thief probably handed over the scooter to the new driver."

According to the OC of Bharalumukh Police Station, the search operation is ongoing. They expect to apprehend the culprit soon.
