Over 5,000 Kg Burmese Supari Seized In Hailakandi

GUWAHATI: In multiple operations during night patrolling, the Hailakandi Police confiscated around 5,750 kgs of Burmese Supari.

In the first operation, led by the In-Charge of Abdullahpur Outpost and supporting staff, police discovered and confiscated 20 sacks of illegal Burmese supari, weighing approximately 1000 kg, abandoned at Mahmudpur, under the jurisdiction of Lala Police Station.

In a simultaneous operation, acting on credible intelligence, law enforcement intercepted a truck at Dhonipur Village. The operation, conducted by the Officer-in-Charge of Lala Police Station and staff, resulted in the seizure of 87 sacks of illegal Burmese supari, totalling around 4,350 kg, and 64 sacks of raw betel nut.

The traffickers had ingeniously used raw betel nut to conceal the illegal Burmese supari. The vehicle used for transportation was also seized.

In a parallel naka checking operation, another vehicle was intercepted at Chowrangi Bypass road, NH 6, by the Officer-in-Charge of Hailakandi Police Station and accompanying staff. A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of 8 sacks of illegal Burmese supari, weighing approximately 400 kg.

These sacks were cleverly concealed in secret compartments within the vehicle's roof. The vehicle was subsequently seized. Further investigations are underway.
