Over 35 Kg Gold & ₹13 Lakh Cash Seized In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted a coordinated operation across multiple cities in India, resulting in a significant seizure of foreign-origin gold, cash, and vehicles.

The operation carried out on March 12 and 13, targeted multiple locations in Assam including Guwahati, Barpeta, Muzaffarpur, Araria, and Gorakhpur.

In the bust, DRI officers in Guwahati apprehended six members of the syndicate, including two masterminds, from residential premises in the city. They recovered 22.74 kg of gold, ₹13 lakh in cash, vehicles, and electronic items. Additionally, a vehicle en route from Guwahati to Barpeta, Assam, was intercepted, leading to the seizure of 13.28 kg of smuggled gold and the arrest of two more individuals.

Further operations led to the interception of a vehicle near Darbhanga by DRI officers from Muzaffarpur, resulting in the recovery of 13.27 kg of gold. In Gorakhpur, another vehicle was intercepted, yielding 11.79 kg of foreign-origin gold.

Moreover, DRI officers from Patna intercepted nine cars with secret cavities used by the syndicate in Araria, Bihar.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the syndicate smuggled gold into India through the Indo-Myanmar border, aggregated it in Guwahati, and transported it to cities like Delhi and Jaipur. In total, DRI apprehended 12 individuals – eight in Guwahati, two in Muzaffarpur, and two in Gorakhpur as part of this operation.

Further investigations are underway.
