Over 3,000 Kg Burmese Supari Seized In Cachar And Hailakandi

 

GUWAHATI: In multiple operations conducted in the last 24 hours, Cachar Police successfully recovered and seized a total of 3,340 kilograms of betel nut suspected to be of Burmese origin. The operation targeted six vehicles. The interception points included Gumrah, Salchapra, and Lailapur.

Taking to X, Cachar Police stated, “Last 24 hrs, Cachar Police recovered & seized 3,340 Kgs of suspected to be Burmese betel nut from six vehicles Reg No. AS01EC0821, AS01FR1465, AS01AH6119, AS11X9598, AS11EC5217 & NL01L5202 at Gumrah, Salchapra & Lailapur.”

In a parallel operation, acting on credible information, the Officer-in-Charge (O/C) of Bilaipur Police Station, along with the police staff, intercepted a vehicle at Dholcherra. Upon a thorough search, the police discovered illegal Burmese betel nuts loaded in secret compartments within the vehicle.

Taking to X, Hailakandi Police stated, “On the basis of source information, one vehicle bearing Reg. No. AS01KC 0634 was intercepted at Dholcherra by the O/C, Bilaipur PS, and staff. On search of the illegal Burmese supari were found loaded in secret chambers.”

These operations are part of the ongoing efforts by the respective police departments to crack down on the illegal trade of betel nuts and other substances in the region. Authorities are expected to take necessary legal actions against those involved in the transportation and trade of these illicit goods.
