The FIR was filed jointly by animal welfare organisations Purrpaws Foundation, Aloo Foundation, Anaajoree, Animal Crime Control, and several individual rescuers and activists.

The case surfaced after a hidden camera captured footage showing Das allegedly removing a male dog from a room, luring the female Labrador inside, undressing, and then proceeding to assault her. The dog can be seen trying to escape and crying out, but the man continues the act. Activists claim this abuse had been ongoing for nearly a year.

Narayan Das is known locally as the owner of a restaurant, bar, and wine shop in Morigaon. Activists also allege that he has a history of serious accusations, including abuse and trafficking, but had previously managed to evade legal consequences.
