Over 2.7 Crore Cash Seized in Assam for Violation of Model Code of Conduct

GUWAHATI: From the announcement of dates for the Assam elections 2021 till 9 AM of March 6, cash amounting to Rs 2.72 crore and liquor worth Rs 1.11 crore were confiscated from various parts of the state for violation of the Model Code of Conduct. 
 

The Election Commission of India's Model Code of Conduct (MCC), is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India for conduct of political parties and candidates during elections mainly with respect to speeches, polling day, polling booths, portfolios, election manifestos, processions and general conduct. 
 

Till the morning of March 6, as many as 23 complaints regarding violation of MCC (Model Code of Conduct) were received from several districts of Assam, stated a release. 


State Police, Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams (SST) across Assam are presently keeping close vigil against any suspicious movement of cash, valuables, liquor, contraband etc. This is done to check any attempt at violation of Model Code of Conduct which has been enforced presently for conduct of free and fair polls, added the release.
