GUWAHATI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bogibeel Bridge over River Brahmaputra, the longest rail-cum-road bridge in the country on December 25 at around 1:30 PM.
In a last minute move the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, (DIPR) Assam has barred all regional or national media houses from covering the Bogibeel Bridge opening programme. Only the government media departments like Doordarshan, Press Information Bureau and the All India Radio will be allowed to have access to the formal opening ceremony of India’s longest railroad bridge.
This decision has led to a lot of discontentment and anger among the media houses of the region who were all geared up for the occasion.

The step was taken after a reported ‘advisory’ issued by Special Protection Group (SPG) which is responsible for the security of the prime minister.
In an earlier notification, the DIPR had requested media houses to submit necessary documents for the issuance of media accreditation cards which was later withdrawn after the advisory.
