No, Internet will NOT be Suspended in Assam, Confirms Assam Police

GUWAHATI: In the wake of protests across the state of Assam against the contentious  Citizenship Amendment Bill, rumours are making their rounds on social media that internet connectivity will be suspended in Assam also.

A social media post published by "The Northeastern Chronicle" reads, "Internet will be banned in Assam starting from 12:00 AM midnight, Wednesday 11 December 2019 and will continue for next 48 hours.

This however is completely incorrect and a false news. Speaking to G Plus, a top official from Assam Police rubbished these reports and said that there are no plans to suspend internet connectivity in the state.

A top official of a telecom company in Assam also confirmed the same. "We have not received any communication from the competent authorities yet," said the source.

Meanwhile in Tripura, the Tripura government starting Tuesday afternoon suspended internet and SMS services in the state for 48 hours.
