Nine People From Northeast To Be Conferred With Padma Shri Award

 

GUWAHATI: The Ministry of Home Affairs, on Wednesday, January 25, released the list of individuals who are going to be honoured with the Padma awards this year. The list of awardees includes nine individuals from the northeast who will receive the Padma Shri, an award presented to an individual for distinguished service in any field.

The list of recipients includes Hemoprova Chutia, Hem Chandra Goswami and Ramkuiwangbe Newme from Assam, Thounaojam Chaoba Singh and K Shanathoiba Sharma from Manipur, Bikram Bahadur Jamatia and Narendra Chandra Debbarma from Tripura, Neihunuo Sorhie and Moa Subong from Nagaland, K C Runremsangi from Mizoram, Tula Ram Upreti from Sikkim, Risingbor Kurkalang from Meghalaya and Karma Wangchu from Arunachal Pradesh. 

The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian awards of India and are given in three categories, which are the ‘Padma Vibhushan’, the ‘Padma Bhushan’ and the ‘Padma Shri’. The names of the awardees are announced by the Government of India on the occasion of Republic Day each year and the awards are presented to the recipients by the President of India in a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
