GUWAHATI: The Leader of Opposition (LoP), Debabrata Saikia, has stated that he had observed certain worrisome and suspicious aspects of an affidavit filed recently in the Gauhati High Court by the incumbent State Coordinator of NRC (SCNRC), Hitesh Dev Sarma.

"An error-free National Register of Citizens (NRC) is the common objective of all of us. However, Sarma’s assertions create the impression that he is preparing a blueprint to re-do the NRC update process in line with the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) new agenda, which will result in more harassment for the people of Assam," Saikia in his official statement.

Earlier, Hitesh Dev Sarma had stated that the last year's NRC was "only a supplementary list and the final list is yet to come." Saikia has asked Sarma to refrain from making such statements.
