GUWAHATI: The construction of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building, situated in the New Shillong Township at Mawdiangdiang, is well underway, with an expected completion date in August 2024. This was confirmed to the media by Prestone Tynsong, the Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, who is responsible for the Public Works Department (Buildings).

A noteworthy development in the construction process is the foundation work for the installation of the new dome. The previous dome of the new assembly building had collapsed in May last year, necessitating a thorough reconstruction.

Regarding the installation of the new dome, Tynsong told media that the required prefab components have been ordered and will soon be transported to the site, where the installation process will commence. Furthermore, the design for the dome's reconstruction has been meticulously vetted and approved by experts from IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee.

With work progressing at a promising pace, it is anticipated that the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly may convene its first session within the new building during the forthcoming autumn session.
