New Land Grabbing Case Detected In Bharalumukh, Eight Arrested

GUWAHATI: As the detection of land grabbing cases saga continues in Guwahati, a new case of land forgery involving a prime plot in Bharalumukh was detected by the police recently, leading to the arrest of key suspects today.

The case was unfolded when Gayatri Sarma, resident of Bharalumukh filed an FIR on December 11, alleging fraudulent transactions related to a valuable piece of land registered in the name of her late father, Debendra Goswami, and his two brothers.

According to the complaint, the legal heirs discovered discrepancies when they approached the Circle Office for the transfer of ownership.
It was revealed that one Manik Das had initiated the process of mutation based on a registered Sale Deed dated 1995, a document the complainant claimed to be forged.

The subsequent investigation unearthed a complex web of fraud, indicating that the Sale Deed was fabricated by inserting unauthorised backdated entries into the “Volume Book” of the Sub Registrar's office. The prime accused, Manik Das, was reported dead in April 2023, and following his demise, the disputed land was allegedly occupied by Amulya Kalita and others.

As a result of the evidence gathered during the investigation, several individuals have been arrested in connection with the case namely Tuman Das, aged 25 from Bharalumukh, Amulya Kalita, aged 56 from Bharalumukh, Niren Choudhary, aged 55 from Bharalumukh, Pankaj Das, aged 56, resident of Bharalumukh, and Raham Rohman, aged 44 resident of Fatasil Ambari in Guwahati.

Earlier, in connection with other land grabbing cases in Guwahati, three government employees of the Sub-Registrar Office, were arrested namely Debasish Baruah, aged 37 resident of Dispur, Sadoy Kr. Deka, aged 39 resident of Geetanagar, and Nitul Ch Das, aged 21, from Mukalmua, who are also found associated with the newly detected Bharalumukh case. They are also declared arrested in the same case.

Eight persons in total are arrested in the Bharalumukh land grabbing case.

The arrests were made based on the alleged involvement of these individuals in the fraudulent acquisition and occupation of the disputed land. Further investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the forgery and to identify any additional individuals involved in the illegal transaction.
