GUWAHATI: Assam police with the help of an NGO from Nepal rescued seven Nepali girls from popularly known as Lane 14 in Silchar, Assam on November 18.

According to reports, a team of the NGO from Nepal 'Shakti Samuha'along with the help of Cachar Police carried out an operation to resuce the girls.

It is to be mentioned that earlier in July the NGO rescued a minor girl of around 14 years of age, who later helped the NGO to rescue the girls from the infamous brothel.

A nepali national woman identified as Laxmi Tamang has already been arrested who allegedly forced all the girls into prostitution.

“The embassy has been notified about the rescue of these seven girls and once they are produced in the court at Silchar, we will be able to take them back to their homes in Nepal.” said Dilip Koirala, a legal and training advisor of Shakti Samuha.

The NGO has been formed with 15 trafficked girls out of 128 who were rescued in 1996 from various brothels in Mumbai.
