GUWAHATI: Right after NDFB (R) Chief Ranjan Daimary was convicted in the serial bombings in Assam in 2008, supporters of NDFB raised slogans like ‘Long Live NDFB’, ‘NDFB Zindabad’ outside the court.

Earlier today, ten people were accorded life imprisonment by a special court in the 2008 Assam serial bombing incident. Protesters gathered in large numbers in front of the CBI’s special court at Chandmari, Guwahati to support the accused.

Additionally, Anjali Daimary, sister of Ranjan Daimary said that they will fight the verdict rendered by the special court. "We will keep fighting, outside or inside. We will go to the higher courts," she said.

Speaking to the media, Anjali said that there is a discriminatory attitude in the government in treating different organizations like NDFB and ULFA, who have also been accused in similar crimes and that this judgement will hamper the peace process and peace talks between the Government and NDFB. "If the President of an organization was engaged in peace talks all throughout, and now the government has put him in jail, how will the organization continue the peace process? We are appealing to the government to give priority to the peace talks. We are indigenous to the land, the son of the soil and since long, the tribal people have been treated as step children. This is why these slogans are erupting. It's not just from the Bodos, its also from the Karbis, Dimasas, Misings, Rabhas, Tiwas. We are not treated the same. Being the head of the organization, he has been convicted and put behind bars. But then what about the other groups and leaders who killed children, Hindi speaking people, SPs, MPs? Being organizational heads, why are they not arrested? Why only with the Bodos? The court today has shown that the Bodos do not get justice with the larger group of Assam, because we are minority."

“We want Bodoland. Ranjan Daimary fought for the rights of the Bodo people. He should be set free. He is the leader of the NDFB and leading the peace talks,” said some of the supporters to G Plus.
