GUWAHATI: A national Table Tennis player from Tamil Nadu died in a road accident in Meghalaya on Sunday, April 17. Deenadayalan Vishwa passed away after the car he was travelling in met with an accident on the Guwahati-Shillong stretch.
18-year-old Viswa who was part of the Tamizhaga Table Tennis Association (TTTA) State men's team was travelling from Guwahati to Shillong by road to participate in the 83rd Senior National Table Tennis Championships to be held in Meghalaya.
According to the local police, the car was on its way from Guwahati Airport to Shillong when it was hit by a truck on the NH 6. The driver of the vehicle also succumbed to severe injuries.
The accident occurred after the overspeeding truck trampled the tourist vehicle and fell down 50 metres in a gorge, reported ANI.
Later, the truck driver and other victims of the vehicle were rushed to Nongpoh Civil Hospital and later were referred to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.
