GUWAHATI: Mukul M. Sangma, a prominent Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and former Chief Minister of Meghalaya, has been officially designated as the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

This appointment, announced by the Assembly Speaker, has been made effective from the morning of Wednesday, August 28.
Additionally, Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, another member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, has been named as the Opposition Chief Whip, with his role also commencing from the same date.
The appointments were formalised through an official notification issued by Andrew Simons, Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Earlier, Speaker Thomas A. Sangma had confirmed that Mukul Sangma had formally requested the position of Leader of the Opposition.
