GUWAHATI: Assam Cabinet Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary in the Assam Legislative Assembly said that at least 4,944 rape cases have been registered in the State by the BJP led-Assam government since 2016.
He mentioned this during the on-going budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly on February 4.
Patowary further informed that the total of number of crimes and road accident cases registered in the state since the BJP came to power until January 25, 2019 stands at 1,01,960. This was in reply to an unstarred question from AGP’s Ramendra Narayan Kalita.
A total of 38, 142 cases of theft, 425 cases of looting, 4,944 cases of rape, 17,331 cases of kidnapping, 19 cases of witch-hunting, 20, 088 dowry-related cases and 21,011 road accidents have been registered in Assam.
From May 24, 2016 until January 28, 2019, 36 civilians died due to subversive activities by militants. During the same period, 61 militants were killed by security personnel in encounters. Three people were killed in mob violence.
The minister also informed that a total of 9,928 cases of theft, 19 looting cases, 182 rape cases, 1,769 kidnapping cases, 110 dowry cases and 2,686 road accidents were reported in Guwahati alone from 2016 until January 25, 2019.
