Morale of Assam Police Still High Despite Many Positive Cases: DGP

GUWAHATI: DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta today conducted a press conference to update on the Covid situation amongst police personnel. 

He informed that out of the 220 policemen who tested positive, currently 171 are still active.

“We have set up a helpline wherein we call every infected policeman twice daily to take updates on their situation and also to provide motivation. We are also looking after the families of these people, providing them with the necessities and also doing the testing,” said Mahanta.

Thanking the chief minister and the health minister for their support towards the police force, the DGP said a 26 bedded Covid Care Centre has been set up at Dergoan. Also a covid speciality hospital is under construction at the 16th AP (IR)BN at Barmonipur in Morigaon district. 

22 police doctors and 250 nursing staff have been trained to handle police patients.

“The morale of our personnel is as high as ever despite many testing positive and we are also conducting other operations against drugs, insurgencies, etc along with the other paramilitary forces,“ he added.

Mahanta thanked the health department for dedicating a section of the Khanapara Covid Care Centre exclusively for police personnel.
