GUWAHATI: A large group of unidentified people attacked a bus belonging to the Modern English School outside the Nehru Stadium on Sunday, November 3 evening in the absence of any police security.

The school had organised the 3rd All Assam Inter-School Taekwondo Championship at the Nehru Stadium.
Around 8:30 pm, local people from across the stadium stopped the Modern School bus and began misbehaving. When the senior officials of the school tried to intervene, approximately 30–40 people gathered and brutally attacked them with bamboo sticks, causing severe injuries.
"In a government area, this situation poses a significant risk for players from outside the region, making it very unsafe for those who have come from other places," said one of the organisers of the event on condition of anonymity.
The Paltan Bazar Police Station Officer In-charge talking to GPlus said there was no intimation about any tournament. He claimed that whenever there is intimation security is accordingly provided.
It needs to be mentioned that the chief minister of Assam is planning to convert Nehru Stadium into a world class sporting arena. With such security status, world class stadium remains a distant dream. Moreover, Paltan Bazar police should not wait for intimation to secure any area.
