Guwahati: A ‘Millling and Recyling’ pilot project was inaugurated at Panbazar in the presence of ministers and officials. Work was started on Saturday using this technology to repair and build the Hem Baruah Road.

This advanced German technology enables the builder to re-use 30% of the stones and other materials during repairs.

Laying a new layer of asphalt on top of an old and damaged one is only a temporary solution. Cracks will migrate through the new material and destroy it in a short time.

“To ensure layers of roads do not add up to their thickness, there is a new technique that trims the upper part, recycles it and uses it in laying the new layer. Glad to launch a pilot project on Milling and Recycling under PWRD on Hem Baruah Road,” tweeted Himanta Biswa Sarma, PWD Minister, Assam.

In this process, a broken area will be removed using cold milling equipment and then the extracted material will be recycled forming a part of the new asphalt. This new material will then be used to pave the worn out part creating a new layer.

“I believe using this technology will bring a new revolution to road building and repairs in the entire state of Assam,” said Siddhartha Bhattacharya, minister Guwahati Development Department.
