Mild Earthquake Shakes Darrang, Tremors Felt Across Assam

 

GUWAHATI: In the early hours of Wednesday, a mild earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale rattled areas in and around Darrang district in Assam.

The seismic event occurred at 07:54:52 IST and was located at a depth of 20 kilometres with coordinates placing it at 26.55 N latitude and 92.13 E longitude.

Although registering as a relatively mild tremor, the earthquake was felt across Assam, including the capital city of Guwahati.

The epicentre was identified in the Darrang district, and while no immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received, authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

Assam has experienced seismic events in the past, and the state remains susceptible to such occurrences due to its geographical location.
