Mercury Level shows Morning Temperature at 35°C in Sizzling Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The mercury level in Guwahati touched 35 degrees Celsius early in the morning; there has been no respite from the heat since the onset of August.

The IMD forecast for Guwahati and its neighbourhood during next 24 hours predicts a partly cloudy sky with possibility of development of thunder and lightning. The mercury levels are expected to show the maximum and minimum temperatures at most likely 38 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.

Notably, Deputy Director-General of Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati Dr Sanjay Oniel, speaking to media, said that on August 5, the highest ever maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded in the city of Guwahati ever since a meteorological centre was established in Guwahati way back on 23rd July 1949, which is 70 years ago. 

Meanwhile, Shillong also recorded the highest ever August month minimum temperature in history.
