GUWAHAT: Two villages in Meghalaya, Umden in Ri-Bhoi and Mawphlang in the East Khasi Hills, have been honoured as the 'Best Tourism Villages' by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, for the 2024 Best Tourism Village Competition in the Craft and Heritage categories.

Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad Sangma announced the news via social media, stating that the awards will be presented on World Tourism Day, September 27, 2024, in New Delhi.
The competition honours villages that excel as tourism destinations while preserving their cultural and natural heritage. It also promotes community values and emphasises sustainability.
