Meghalaya Reopens: Here's What To Do If You Do Not Have Necessary Documents

GUWAHATI: Meghalaya has reopened for tourism from today, 21st December, after several months of lockdown and then staggered entry due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation.


The Department of Tourism, Meghalaya has issued new guidelines to be followed by at the Umling Facilitation Centre at Ri-Bhoi district, for entry of tourists.


Visitors of Meghalaya will have to register or produce identification documents at the entry point at Umling. Those documents of entering the State will be checked at the facilitation centre. Visitors can also register online on the 'Meghalaya Tourism' App and upload necessary documents to prove their identity.


Along with the other identification document, a Covid-19 negative report of every tourist is mandatory, which can be done within 72 hours prior to arrival.


To facilitate unhindered travel into the state, the Meghalaya government has provided the following options:

1. Tourists who arrive at the Umling Facilitation Centre with both e-invite and valid Covid negative report will be allowed to proceed ahead.

2. Tourists that have just the e-invite but are without any Covid testing certificate will have to take the test at the health counter, and will be allowed to proceed only after being confirmed negative.

3. Tourists carrying their negative test result but are without the e-invite will be asked to generate the same through a tour operator or can do so himself/herself by downloading the App.

4. For those tourists who do not carry both the e-invite and the valid Covid-19 test report, will have to get the e-invite through a tour operator or the App, as well the necessary health checkup. They will be allowed to proceed only after all has been completed.


However, no Rapid Antigen Test result will be accepted by Meghalaya as valid Covid-19 test report.
