GUWAHATI: Mehtab Chandee Agitok Sangma, the wife of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, secured a decisive victory in the Gambegre bye-election on Saturday, November 23, after the votes were counted. She won by a margin of 4,594 votes, defeating her closest rival, Sadhiarani M. Sangma of the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).

Mehtab, representing the National People’s Party (NPP), garnered 12,678 votes, outpacing Sadhiarani Sangma, who secured 8,084 votes. Other candidates in the race included Jingjang Marak of Congress with 7,695 votes, and Bernard Marak of the BJP, who managed to secure just 710 votes. Independent candidates Jerry Sangma and Sengkrabirth Marak received 706 and 147 votes, respectively, while 95 voters opted for None of the Above (NOTA).
