Massive Boost For Tourism Sector In Assam Budget 2022-23

GUWAHATI:  The Assam Government has earmarked thematic areas for the development of tea and golf tourism, river tourism, pilgrimage tourism in its budget. In her budget speech on March 16, Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced various projects and schemes to boost the tourism sector of the State.

To commemorate the sacrifice of these martyred soldiers like Lachit Borphukan, a war memorial will be constructed at Alaboi in Kamrup featuring a 100-foot long Hengdang.

Two news airports will be set up at Karbi Anglong and Silchar under the Regional Connectivity Scheme. 

Schemes will also be undertaken to facilitate low-cost air connectivity from Guwahati to Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Silchar and Tezpur. 

Furthermore, 13 smaller terminals will also be constructed on National Highways under the assistance of the World Bank.

The Government has taken the decision to develop infrastructure at the recently notified Taimona and Dehing Patkai National parks.

Additionally, the Assam Government has earmarked Rs 50 crore to promote tea tourism. 50 selected tea gardens will be given up to Rs 2 crore each. A river tourism circuit will be developed along the Brahmaputra, covering the Manas and the Kaziranga National Parks. River cruises including the luxury ones will be plying on this route.
