Saikia officially tendered his resignation to Kamal Nayan Choudhury, the Bar Association’s President. In his statement, he explained that his role as Advocate General requires him to align with government policies, including those concerning the High Court’s relocation. However, maintaining his association membership while the body holds an opposing view on the matter would create complications.
“As Advocate General, I am duty-bound to support the government’s policy on relocating the High Court. Given this, remaining a member of the Bar Association, which has a conflicting stance, would be challenging,” Saikia stated.
His resignation states the growing rift between the legal community and the government over the proposed relocation, an issue that has sparked considerable debate among legal professionals.
