Mary Kom inches closer to gold, enters final in Women’s World Boxing Championships

GUWAHATI: Ace boxer M C Mary Kom inched closer to securing the gold medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships on Thursday after she defeated North Korea's Kim Hyang Mi in the semi-finals in the light flyweight (48kg) category.

Mary Kom won the match by a unanimous decision in the semi-finals. The 35-year old boxer now has a chance to clinch the historic sixth gold medal at the world championships.

She has previously won gold medals in the world championships held in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2010. She has also won a silver medal in 2001.
