Manu Bhaker Appointed Brand Ambassador For Ministry Of Ports, Shipping & Waterways

 

GUWAHATI: Double Olympic medalist Manu Bhaker has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador for the Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways on September 17, 2024. The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, made this announcement in a recent event organized by the Chennai Port Authority in collaboration with Kamarajar Port Authority.

Bhaker, who recently won medals in shooting at the Summer Olympics in Paris, is the daughter of a marine engineer, making her connection to the maritime sector particularly significant.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Sonowal expressed pride in Bhaker’s appointment, stating, "It is a moment of great pride for every Indian and for the maritime sector that Manu Bhaker, the daughter of a proud marine sailor, will now champion India’s marine sector as our official Brand Ambassador."

Besides Bhaker's appointment, Sonowal also participated in an event celebrating the achievements of women in the maritime sector and other fields. The Union Minister honored several women for their contributions to nation-building, including Lt Commander Vartika Joshi, the first female skipper of the Indian crew aboard INSV Tarini, and Sonali Banerjee, India’s first female marine engineer.

Other notable honorees included Thulasimathi Murugesan and Manisha Ramadass, who won silver and bronze medals, respectively, in badminton at the Paris Paralympics, as well as Captain Teena Joey and Rupali Raj Joshi, recognized for their roles in the maritime industry.
