Manipur Girls Face Racial Discrimination In Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Two girls in Guwahati allegedly faced racist slurs in a residential complex in Guwahati on the night of April 30. A video has surfaced from a particular residential colony in the Betkuchi area.

As per the girls, they were walking while listening to music in their headphones in the common space. Following this, one person claiming to be a resident of the residential complex allegedly started raising his voice against them.

In the video, he screamed, “You cannot dance in the common area! This is a common area, this is not your room!"

Furthermore, there were alleged racial undertones as he shouted, “This is Assam, not your Manipur,” in the video.

As per sources, they were further interrogated by a group of middle-aged men who questioned their intentions. Succeeding this, a complaint was filed at the Gorchuk Police Station on the night itself. The police reached the spot to investigate the matter further.

The accused has been alleged to be one Apurba Baruah, a resident.

G Plus tried contacting Apurba Baruah but he was unavailable for comment. If he comes up and wants to add a comment, it will be added.
