Manipur CM Apologises And Appeals For Peace In The State

 

GUWAHATI: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed deep regret over the ongoing turmoil in the state, acknowledging the suffering caused by the violence that began on May 3. Speaking to the media about the hardships faced by the people, he apologised to the residents of Manipur, particularly for the loss of lives and the displacement of families. "This entire year has been very unfortunate. Many lives were lost, and many people had to leave their homes. I truly feel regret," he said.

Highlighting the progress made in recent months towards restoring peace, Singh looked ahead to the New Year, hoping that normalcy would soon return. He urged all communities in the state to let go of past grievances, saying, “I want to appeal to all the communities of the state that whatever happened has happened. We now have to forget past mistakes and have to start a new life.”

The Chief Minister also provided an update on the situation, stating that nearly 200 people had died, 12,247 FIRs had been filed, and 625 individuals arrested. Additionally, a 5,600 arms and weapons were including explosives and 35,000 ammunition had been recovered. Singh praised the central government for its support, including the provision of security personnel, funds for displaced families, and assistance with rebuilding homes.
